• Durgapur college gets Centre’s DBT certificate

  • Durgapur Government College has received the department of biotechnology’s (DBT) prestigious Star Category College Certificate for its various works along with three other colleges in the country. It is the only college in West Bengal to receive this award from the centre’s department of biotechnology (DBT).

    Colleges from Maharashtra, Punjab, New Delhi and West Bengal had participated in the Star Category Scheme.

    This year, the event was organised from 1-3 July at Hindu College in Delhi.

    On 3 July, Government College of Durgapur was invited for a panel discussion. The college put up issues of water pollution, machine learning, chemical equations, oil extraction from plants, electric machinery training etc. The chairperson and co-chairperson the DBT Star Category College Scheme were impressed with the presentation and panel discussion.

    Professor Debnath Palit, principal of Durgapur Government College said that it a major achievement for the institution and in future it will help further development and improvement of the college.

    The Star College Programme was initiated by DBT in 2008 to support colleges and universities offering undergraduate education to improve science teaching across the country. This programme was launched for improving critical thinking and encouraging ‘hands on’ experimental science at undergraduate level in basic science subjects. On a larger perspective, the programme was initiated envisioning that it shall encourage more students to take up higher education in science.
