  • A fact-finding committee investigating the recent controversy at Kasba law college in Kolkata submitted its report to BJP national president J P Nadda, alleging serious lapses in the handling of the case by both the police and the college authorities.

“The report, compiled by a panel formed to probe the matter, accuses law enforcers of attempting to obstruct the investigation and suppress key facts related to the incident. It further alleges that efforts were made to shield certain individuals with political or institutional influence. According to sources familiar with the report, the panel has raised concerns over the role of the college’s governing body and questioned administrative appointments made despite prior knowledge of individuals’ controversial backgrounds. The report also refers to attempts by authorities to restrict access to the survivor by her family members and well-wishers. The committee has urged for a probe by a central agency or an independent high-level committee to ensure transparency and justice in the matter.

“Neither the college administration nor the local police were immediately available for comment.

“Trinamul Congress leader Kunal Ghosh, reacting to the report, wrote on X: “Satyapal Singh is such a shameless person. He is blaming the victim family that when they called, family members did not respond to the calls.

“My dear media friends – even you were not spared by BJP’s Bohiragoto leaders – they called you ‘darpok’ from Delhi.

“Second, he is questioning the police but he forgot it was Kolkata Police that arrested the perpetrators and TMC from Day 1 demanded strictest punishment against those involved unlike BJP who file court cases to shield rapists.

“Why did this delegation did not meet the accused who was raped, assaulted and was forced to undergo abortion by Kartik Maharaj?

“Former CM of Tripura, Biplab Deb should be the last person to speak on law and order – the entire country knows the violence, goonda raj and assault on women he had unleashed in Tripura that’s why he was thrown out by his own party from the state.

“Satyapal Singh should go and see what happened in UP today where a woman was raped and murdered. Few days back police raped a woman in UP – did this didn’t make him question UP’s law and order?”

The TMC in its reaction to JP Nadda wrote on its X handle: “Just curious, @JPNadda: Did your ‘fact-finding teams’ file similar reports when women were paraded naked in Manipur, or when girls are raped and brutalised every day across ‘Double Engine’ states? Or does Nari Suraksha matter only when it’s politically convenient?”
