OBC admission contempt plea: HC refuses urgent listing

12 Kolkata: Calcutta High Court on Monday denied the urgent listing of a contempt application alleging that the state is still conducting "admission" on its UG admission portal under the OBC A and B category, despite the court's stay on the govt notification to begin the process of identifying new OBC classes after those notified post-2010 were struck down."What is the urgency? We cannot stop the admission," Justice Tapabrata Chakraborty stated while refusing the urgent hearing. The matter is being heard by the division bench of Justice Chakraborty and Justice Rajasekhar Mantha.Senior advocate Bansuri Swaraj mentioned the matter before the bench of Justice Chakraborty. "On June 17, the HC stayed five notifications in the OBC matter. The state, in violation of the order, is still conducting recruitment in the OBC A and B category. A contempt petition has been filed. Around 71,000 applications were received as of June 18... " she submitted.
