123 Kolkata: Calcutta University has formed a fact-finding committee on Monday to investigate an incident where a wooden slab from the ceiling fell in room number 17 at the Beadon Row ladies' hostel on Friday morning. The university will conduct inspections across 16 hostels under CU to get a report on the condition of each hostel. The move came after the incident at the PG Lady Students' Hall where the wooden beam fell on a bed. The boarder was fortunately saved as she was not present there. Following the incident, the university formed a committee to probe the matter. The university's interim VC, Santa Datta Dey, said, "We have taken up the matter seriously. We have staff at every hostel, but we never get any information from them, which is something we need to understand first. An expert from outside will find out the actual cause of the incident. We have decided to conduct inspections at other hostels as well to assess their condition."The varsity relocated all 75 boarders to six other hostels. In the initial inquiry, it was found that six months ago, these wooden beams were painted without any work order by the university. Hostel staff, including the superintendent, will be questioned by the committee.
