Chilling murder case in Hooghly: Woman kills husband over affair; kin help hide body, 4 held

Representational Image KOLKATA: A woman and her family members have been arrested in connection with the killing of her husband in West Bengal’s Hooghly district. The incident, rooted in an alleged extramarital affair, came to light after the skeletal remains of the victim were recovered early Sunday.The main accused, Aparna Ruidas, has been apprehended by Jangipara police for the murder of her husband, Robin Ruidas, a resident of Jangalpara village in Chanditala. Along with Aparna, her father Jaydeb Ruidas, brother Abhijit Ruidas, and brother-in-law Pradip Patra (husband of her sister-in-law) have also been detained for their alleged role in helping to conceal the crime.The four accused were produced before the Srirampur Sub-Divisional Court on Sunday and were remanded to four days of police custody to assist with the investigation and crime scene reconstruction.During interrogation, Aparna confessed to strangling her husband with a rope typically used to tie goats. The murder took place on the evening of May 11 at her parents’ home in Radhanagar village under Jangipara police jurisdiction. According to the police, Robin had come to visit his wife and their two children, who had been living with her family for the past seven years.After the murder, Aparna, along with the help of her father and the other two accused, allegedly dumped the body in a deep tube well pipe located about half a kilometre from the house. Robin had been missing for over 40 days, and the breakthrough came during intense police questioning, leading to the recovery of his remains.“The skeletal remains have been retrieved, and we are continuing our investigation to verify the full sequence of events and motives,” said an officer from Jangipara police station.
