Kolkata: A 36-year-old man, Sikander Azam, was severely thrashed by a neighbourhood tough, Rocky, and his aides, who suspected him of stealing a mobile. The incident took place on Kustia Road in Karaya on Wednesday. Azam was assaulted so harshly that he had to be hospitalised. He is now under treatment at a nursing home, where doctors said his condition remained critical though he had started responding to treatment. Four persons have been arrested.After Rocky recently lost his mobile, he suspected Azam of stealing it. Rocky and his gang cornered Azam on the road and beat him up severely till he could flee. Azam's wife lodged an FIR at the Karaya PS. "A probe was started following a complaint by Azam's wife, Sahenar Bagum," said joint CP (crime & traffic) Rupesh Kumar.Cops checked CCTV footage and identified the accused. "The arrested are Zahid Hossain, Manwar Hossain alias Rocky, Sahid Ali and Bikash Routh," said Kumar.
