• CM Mamata Banerjee takes stock of Bengal’s flood situation

  • Kolkata: Amid increasing water level in several districts, CM Mamata Banerjee on Friday took stock of the situation from chief secretary Manoj Pant and DMs of south Bengal districts. She advised the DMs to evacuate people, if needed. She also sought a detailed report on crop loss. On Friday, irrigation minister Manas Bhunia and senior officials visited flood-hit areas of Bankura, where Simlapal and Panchmura have been flooded by the Gandheswari river. Bhunia also visited West Midnapore. The situation is alarming at Garbeta. At Ghatal, 33 flood shelters are operating. Two bamboo bridges on Mundeswari in Howrah collapsed. Following the instruction from Nabanna, other senior ministers will also visit the districts. Horticulture minister Pulak Roy will visit Howrah's Udaynarayanpur and other areas, while urban development minister Firhad Hakim will visit Arambagh and Goghat — flooded by Dwarakeswar river — in Hooghly. Law minister Moloy Ghatak will visit Bankura and Purulia. tnn
