  • 12 Kolkata: To inform consumers and buyers of the govt regulated fair price of essential items, the New Town Kolkata Development Authority (NKDA) has started installing digital display boards at the markets in New Town to highlight fair prices of items like vegetables, fish, meat, eggs, and others. One such digital display board has already been installed at New Town CB Block Market. "It has been decided that digital display boards will be put up in some of the busy New Town markets, which have high footfall. The aim is to inform consumers and buyers of the govt regulated fair price of essential items so that they know what to pay for which items and to prevent items from getting sold at high prices," said an NKDA official.Officials said that teams were visiting different markets across New Town at least once a week. Previously, officials found during the market inspections that prices of vegetables, fish, eggs, and meat were slightly higher than the govt regulated prices. "A list of fair prices of such food items was handed over to the shopkeepers and traders of the markets, and they have been asked to sell the products according to the regulated price determined by the govt," said an NKDA official, adding that they are strictly monitoring the matter.Residents said that this was a good step, but the authorities need to keep on checking whether items were being sold at govt regulated prices only. "Regular monitoring needs to be continued, and it should be seen that prices are at par with markets of other places," said Samir Gupta, secretary of New Town Citizens Welfare Fraternity.
