  • NEW DELHI: Nine people lost their lives in a road accident on Friday morning after a head-on collision between a car and a truck on National Highway 18 in West Bengal’s Purulia district, police confirmed.The incident occurred around 6:30am near Namshol village, under the jurisdiction of the Balarampur police station. "The head-on collision occurred between a Bolero SUV and a truck on the highway, resulting in the deaths of all nine occupants of the four-wheeler," Balarampur police station in-charge Soumyadeep Mallick said.Police officials said the victims were returning home after attending a wedding ceremony.According to sources, the victims had travelled from Adabana village under the Barabazar police station limits in Purulia and were headed to Tilaitand in Jharkhand’s Nimdih police station area when the crash took place.The impact of the collision was devastating, leaving the SUV severely mangled. Local residents and emergency responders rushed to the site and transported the victims to a nearby primary health centre. However, doctors declared all of them dead upon arrival.Preliminary investigations point to overspeeding and possible driver negligence as the likely causes of the accident.Authorities have registered a case, and further investigation is underway, police added.Another similar incident was reported on Thursday, where three were killed and 26 injured after a lorry rammed into a bus in West Bengal.Three people were killed and at least 26 others injured after a lorry rammed into a bus carrying several passengers in West Bengal's Howrah district on Thursday, police said.The accident occurred around 7:30 am in the Bagnan area, when a collision took place between the bus and the goods vehicle, a senior officer confirmed.The bus had been heading towards Shyambazar in north Kolkata from Bagnan at the time of the accident, he added.
