12 Kolkata: BJP MP Abhijit Gangopadhyay, diagnosed with acute pancreatitis with gastrointestinal sepsis, was on Thursday transferred to AIIMS Delhi as his condition remained critical. The 63-year-old former Calcutta High Court judge had been under treatment at a private hospital in Kolkata since Saturday."We felt there was little improvement in his condition. So we decided to take him to Delhi for better treatment," said state BJP president Sukanta Majumdar. A BJP functionary said, "The decision to shift him to AIIMS Delhi was taken on Thursday morning after his condition deteriorated." At the Kolkata hospital, a seven-member medical board was formed and another member was added. Rupak Barua, Woodlands MD and CEO, in a statement said, "...Given the criticality of the illness, it was decided by the medical board consisting of the family members and all treating consultants to transfer Gangopadhyay to a specialised centre for continuation of care. He is now being transferred to the healthcare facility under supervision of an accompanying medical team through an air ambulance."
