  • Kolkata: Kolkata traffic police has started uploading accident footage on their Facebook page to make people aware of the consequences of flouting norms. The accidents were recorded on CCTV cameras installed at major crossings across the city. The move comes at a time when three bikers and pillion riders lost their lives in just three days last week. Although used off and on since 2015, Lalbazar hinted at plans for a sustained online campaign using real-time accident footage. The fresh video to be uploaded shows a biker jumping the red light and crashing into another bike. The impact was such that both bikers were flung off their respective bikes. The video ends with a message to follow the red light and save lives. It has been viewed 5.4K times and shared 1K times, attracting over 250 comments. "We have found that the shock value of these footage can instil more traffic sense than hours of presentations on the values of safe driving," said a top officer at Lalbazar. Police sources said the whole idea was to explain the role of the real culprit. "We will highlight the exact traffic violation and the violator who did it," said a source.
