  • Kolkata: A bomb threat sent airport officials and security forces into a tizzy on Tuesday morning. After the public grievance officer received an email, warning of a pipe bomb blast at the airport, multiple agencies immediately started screening the premises, but a two-hour search yielded nothing suspicious, and it was ultimately declared a hoax. The threat mentioned a planned pipe bomb blast targeting a renowned economist. It claimed the blast was to commemorate the "unfair hanging of Ajmal Kasab" and the "illegal detention of Savukku Shankar", with the sender identifying himself as Alex Paul Menon. The threat was immediately shared in the Bomb Threat Assessment Committee group. CISF intensified security, and strict access control was enforced at departure gates, staff entries, and cargo zones. "Anti-hijacking measures were activated, with over 20% increase in random checks at the baggage screening points," said an airport official. "We didn't find anything suspicious despite a rigorous search," said a police officer.
