• Salt Lake man loses 35L in hotel book scam

  • Kolkata: A Salt Lake resident reportedly lost Rs 35 lakh in a cyber fraud while attempting to get a refund for a double payment he made to book a hotel in Puri. Sanat Kumar Bhaumik lodged a complaint at Bidhannagar South PS after falling victim to fraudsters posing as hotel staff. According to the complaint, Bhaumik booked two sea-view rooms for July 8 to July 10, accidentally paying an advance of Rs 27,264 twice.When trying to get a refund, he was contacted by the hotel's ‘accounts department'. The conman "instructed him the refund steps", but Bhaumik later found that over Rs 35 lakh had been deducted from his account on June 11 and 12. It was only after he spoke to the actual hotel administration on Friday morning that he realised he was duped.
