Kolkata: Two people were arrested after they allegedly assaulted a civic volunteer in Howrah. Howrah District Rural Police made the arrests after a video of the incident went viral.Moidul Islam Layek and Moshiar Rahman Mallik have been accused of slapping the civic volunteer, tying a rope around his waist and legs and making him squat while holding his ears in the Basantpur Bazaar area of Amta Pero police station last Wednesday.The incident sparked a political controversy with BJP claiming that the accused are Trinamool workers. However, Samir Panja, Udaynarayanpur MLA and chairman of Howrah Rural Trinamool Congress, denied the allegation.
