  • 123 Kolkata: A couple from Baguiati was allegedly attacked at a nightclub inside a five-star hotel in south Kolkata early on Friday morning, leading to a police investigation and increased surveillance at nightclubs across the city.The incident occurred around 3.30 am on Thursday when several youths from the Kidderpore area allegedly began harassing the couple, who were enjoying a night out at the upscale establishment. According to the police report, what began as verbal harassment escalated into a physical altercation when the couple protested against the comments directed at them.The victims allege that hotel staff members joined the attackers during the confrontation, which continued for approximately 45 minutes until 4.15 am. The hotel has informed cops that bouncers got involved to stop the brawl involving two groups from escalating and separated the groups, asking them to leave. "They claimed to have followed the protocol," said an investigating officer.The couple filed a formal complaint against both the Kidderpore youths and hotel staff members involved in the incident at Bhowanipore Police Station. Bhawanipore police responded to the scene and transported the injured couple to a nearby hospital for treatment. Authorities are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the hotel to identify and locate the suspects."Our investigation will also look into whether this was a random incident or stemmed from previous conflicts," said the investigating officer, adding that the incident was being "blown out of proportion." "As far as we are concerned, the incident was triggered by a minor incident," he added.TOI contacted the hotel authorities, but they refused to comment. "We are not aware. Call later," said cops. The police has urge anyone with information about the incident to come forward.
