STF seizes 1.5kg heroin, arrests 2 in Murshidabad raid

12 Kolkata: Bengal Police's STF on Tuesday seized 1.5kg of heroin and cash worth over Rs 1 crore and arrested two persons during a raid in Murshidabad district's Shamsherganj.One of the suspects was identified as Jalal Uddin Barbhuiya (53) from Silchar in Assam. The other, Dil Rahaman alias Rahul (31) is a resident of Suti with roots in Assam."The seized contraband would have been worth around Rs 1 crore in the grey market," said SP (operations) Indrajit Basu.According to STF officials, the two had just arrived from Silchar when they were apprehended.The raid was conducted at a house belonging to Rahaman's in-laws, suggesting possible local connections in the drug trafficking network. Rahaman moved in and out of Shamsherganj and was on the radar following some suspicious financial transactions during the Murshidabad violence in April.A senior STF official said the operation represented a significant blow to the "inter-state drug trafficking network operating between Assam and Bengal".A case was registered at Shamsherganj police station under sections of NDPS Act.
