• Monsoon guard: KP readies list of vulnerable bldgs, trees

  • 12 Kolkata: Kolkata Police, along with its specialised Disaster Management Group, launched their preparations for the upcoming monsoon season. This includes buying and even repairing new electronic axes, wood-cutting chainsaws, and solar lights.Moreover, the teams will be stationed at Lalbazar and the Police Training School (PTS). Sources informed that a list has been compiled for dilapidated buildings, trees likely to get uprooted, and vulnerable areas. All police personnel on duty, especially the traffic cops, were directed to ensure that no guard rails are left on the road when the rain comes and visibility drops.The DMG was directed to be ready with equipment in such a manner that multiple teams are able to clear uprooted trees. Every traffic guard will have to check and report on the damages caused to the traffic signal posts and CCTV cameras in case there are heavy winds involved.Local and traffic cops were instructed to maintain liaison with the local KMC officials and the councillors to ensure quick action. They were also directed to arrange an adequate number of drainage pumps in those areas where waterlogging is common.
