NIA detains guard at Topsia hotel in espionage probe

12 Kolkata: The NIA, probing the network involved in espionage across the country, detained a security guard of a hotel in Topsia on Saturday. The officers are trying to determine if the guard shared classified information with agencies or persons outside India. The agency on Saturday carried out searches of multiple premises at Park Circus, Kidderpore and Alipore.The security guard reportedly had been working at the hotel for a little over a month. "He had been working here in place of another security guard. They are recruited by the security agency we have tied up with. The agency decides the deployment of guards and fixes their rosters," said an employee of the hotel. The agency officers also visited the office of a travel agency in Kidderpore. At the Topsia hotel, officers first questioned the security guard and then, took him to their New Town office for further interrogation. The agency had earlier arrested a CRPF personnel, Moti Ram Jat, for allegedly sharing classified information with Pakistani agents in exchange for money.
