123 Kolkata: The Kolkata Traffic Police has made changes to the time allotted for pedestrians to cross the busy Ruby crossing on EM Bypass during peak office hours. The cops will hold up Bypass traffic a few seconds longer to ensure that pedestrians, especially children and the elderly, can at least reach the islands in the middle of the road.In addition, both-way traffic — from Anandapur heading towards Ballygunge and from Kasba towards Anandapur — will move simultaneously so that cops get some additional seconds for pedestrian crossovers. Joint CP (crime & traffic) Rupesh Kumar has requested KMDA to initiate the construction of the skywalk at Ruby crossing. KMDA officials, however, replied that although a joint inspection was done, the project will not get financial approval this financial year.Alternatively, an underpass can serve the same purpose, said cops. The police have also proposed the installation of high-mast white lights at Ruby, Mandirpara, and Tagore Park.
