  • 123 Kolkata: Damodar Valley Corporation has dismissed an appeal by Steel Re-Rolling Mills Association, WB Sponge Iron Manufacturers' Association and Damodar Valley Power Consumers' Association earlier this week over the abrupt upward revision of power tariffs."The appeal consists of a number of factual inaccuracies and inconsistencies, which are completely one-sided and have not been brought out in their appeal," DVC stated. The public sector utility distributes power to industrial and commercial consumers within the DVC Valley Area of Bengal and Jharkhand. The distribution tariff is fixed by WBERC for West Bengal and JSERC for Jharkhand. The company said it had repeatedly represented to both state govts regarding the need for uniformity in electricity tariff fixation through one regulatory commission."DVC continued to supply electricity despite the rise in the cost of fuel and manpower. The current tariff in Bengal, decided by WBERC, is a cost-reflective tariff that is quite justified to which DVC is eligible," it added. It also argued that the DVC tariff within Bengal had remained static over the years as different associations litigated at various fora since 2007 for various reasons, which were not tenable as per a Supreme Court order in 2018.
