A second bomb threat was received by the Swasthya Bhawan in Kolkata within 24 hours of the first. On Tuesday, around 9 am, an officer at Swasthya Bhavan “received an email” that said it would be blown up at 5 pm, sources said.
Police sources said that “nothing suspicious” had been found thus far.
According to sources, the email claimed that four improvised explosive devices (IED) had been placed in the Bhawan. Immediately after receiving the email, Bidhannagar police rushed to the spot, and a bomb squad and sniffer dogs were also brought in.
Tension spread in Swasthya Bhawan, with the entire campus, including cars and the generator room, being searched. Commissioner of Police, Bidhannagar, Mukesh told The Indian Express, “We are investigating the origin of the emails.” Police sources said that “nothing suspicious” had been found thus far.
On Monday, an email was received by a Deputy Director of Health Services around 4 am, which was seen later. This email also mentioned “four IEDs” placed inside the Bhawan, “set to go off at 1:13 pm.” Several hours of search operations later, police said they found nothing suspicious. The Bidhannagar Cyber Crime Police Station was investigating the origin of this email as well.
Staff at Swasthya Bhawan expressed concern about the venue being “targetted” as two bomb scares were received within 24 hours.
