• BSF thwarts infiltration bids by B’desh nat’ls

  • 12 Jalpaiguri/Nadia: BSF and local police have intercepted multiple attempts at illegal border crossing in Bengal.On Wednesday, BSF stopped 40 Bangladeshi nationals from crossing the border across three different locations in Cooch Behar. Driven back, the Bangladeshis have camped within 150 yards of the zero point at Sangarbari, Mahishmuri in Sitalkuchi, and Koimari in Sitai. Senior BSF officials have reached out to the Border Guard Bangladesh to remove them from the border area, but to no avail. Intelligence sources attribute this surge in infiltration attempts to the ongoing political turmoil in the neighbouring country.In Nadia, Hanskhali Police arrested five Bangladeshis from Baro Chupria village on Tuesday. The group, which included two women, had allegedly entered India illegally about a year ago. The arrested were Hannan Mridha, 50, Md Rabiul Mondal, 30, Mikail Sk, 31, Rabbi Sk, 24, and his wife Rikta Begam, 23. Police are searching for locals Nasima Mondal and her husband, accused of harbouring these illegal immigrants.
