CBI arrests Murshidabad medical college doctor in Rs 10 lakh bribery case

Tapan Kumar Jana, hospital senior arrested by CBI KOLKATA: The CBI on Saturday arrested the Murshidabad Medical College and Hospital anatomy head for allegedly issuing a favourable inspection report to a private medical college in Karnataka's Belagavi against cash.Tapan Kumar Jana, an assessor with the National Medical Commission, received Rs 10 lakh in bribes.The doctor was arrested immediately after accepting the amount from a representative of the college. After his arrest, CBI officers reached Jana's house at Burdwan's Mithapukur around 10.30pm on Saturday and searched the premises until 6.30am on Sunday. A case was registered against him and two others, including him. Jana's wife Susmita, also a doctor, said she had been told not to speak about seized items. "I am not sure why CBI raided my house.I am not even aware if my husband was associated with NMC," she said. Jana was sent to Karnataka on transit remand.On Sunday, CBI conducted raids in Kolkata, Burdwan and Karnataka's Belgaum. It recovered Rs 44.6 lakh in cash during these searches. "Raids were conducted by CBI at residential and official premises of the accused, which led to the recovery of cash and incriminating documents and articles," the agency said.
