Kolkata: An unidentified flying object (UFO) with blinking lights was sighted hovering over parts of the night sky along the India-Bangladesh border in Hasnabad, North 24-Parganas, late on Friday night, prompting serious concern from both the Border Security Force (BSF) and local police.Eyewitnesses claim the object appeared suddenly and remained stationary for several minutes before disappearing from sight. The incident, which occurred late last night, raised suspicions, and police are not ruling out the possibility of cross-border espionage. Eyewitnesses from Katakhal village in Hasnabad reported that the object appeared suddenly around 10.45 pm and remained stationary in the night sky for nearly 10-12 minutes before disappearing. According to local sources, a group of youths sitting on the Katakhal bridge first noticed the object. The sight, described as "drone-like" and emitting multicoloured blinking lights, sparked alarm.Soon after receiving the alert, personnel from Hasnabad and Hingalganj police stations, along with BSF jawans, rushed to the site. Senior BSF officers confirmed a preliminary investigation had been launched.Police sources revealed that multiple such objects —possibly three—were seen entering Indian airspace from across the border. The possibility of drone surveillance or cross-border espionage is not being ruled out. "We are looking into the matter very seriously. Nothing is being ruled out at this stage, including the possibility of technological surveillance," a senior Basirhat district police officer said.
