  • Haringhata: A police team from Nadia's Haringhata recovered 25 stolen iPhones from Patna and apprehended three people, Additional SP Siddharth Dhapola said on Saturday.The ASP said Haringhata cops had received a complaint from technology logistics company representative Tapan Halder on March 27 about smartphones and other gadgets missing from two shipments that had originated from Ranchi and Raipur.The shipments, which arrived mid-March, had Rs 79 lakh worth of gadgets missing — Rs 30 lakh worth from the first shipment and Rs 49 lakh worth from the other.Investigating officer Tarif Aziz, SI of Haringhata PS, said a complaint was registered against four drivers of the logistics trucks.A cyber investigation revealed that around 70-80 of the stolen iPhones were active in the Patna region.A five-member police team from Haringhata visited Patna on April 21. On April 23, they arrested two primary suspects: Ankita Kumar Singh from Khaza Kalam PS and Md Suraj from Hilsa PS. The police team recovered 25 iPhones worth Rs 25 lakh from them.On April 26, the suspects were brought to Haringhata. Investigation revealed the involvement of driver Sajit Kumar Prasad, police said. After making their court appearance on April 27, the accused were sent to six days remand. They are now in judicial custody.Haringhata cops visited Patna again on May 13 and arrested Prasad on May 14. Following his court appearance on May 17, he was sent on five-day remand, which was later extended four days.A police officer indicated that further visits to Patna were likely given the involvement of more suspects and the recovery of remaining items pending.
