Kolkata: Bengal BJP expects visits by PM Narendra Modi and Union home Minister Amit Shah next week to encourage the workers and lift their spirits, which have taken a hit since the Lok Sabha elections.There has been dissatisfaction growing in state BJP ranks as well, says a senior neta, especially at a time when state unit president Sukanta Majumdar's tenure has been over and no successor has been named yet. At such a time, political analysts view the visits as major tactical moves before the Bengal assembly elections.Modi is scheduled to visit north Bengal on May 29, with stops at Hasimara and at Alipurduar parade ground for public gatherings. He is scheduled to inaugurate several govt initiatives, including a Jalpaiguri-Sealdah train service and an alternative road connection between Sikkim and Bengal. Additionally, Modi will discuss security concerns regarding the ‘Chicken's Neck', a narrow 22-km strip with Bangladesh to the east and Nepal to the west, with senior officials.State BJP senior Amitava Chakravorty confirmed on Saturday a meeting of Siliguri district committee members to prepare for the PM's visit.Shah's schedule includes arriving in Kolkata on May 31 for discussions with security agency officials, followed by a meeting at Science City with party netas the following day. During the visits, the duo is expected to address organisational challenges and establish campaign tactics in Bengal.At the public gatherings and meetings, BJP aims to focus on recent incidents, including the Jafrabad father-son deaths, and the alleged displacement of Hindus.State BJP netas said they had been given a three-month window until early Sept to hold demonstrations against issues of corruption and the teacher recruitment scandal. Despite recent protests led by BJYM president Indranil Khan outside Bikash Bhavan, party sources indicate insufficient street-level activism to challenge the state govt.Reacting to Modi and Shah's proposed visits, Trinamool Congress spokesman Kunal Ghosh said that Bengal should not be deprived of its dues and the PM and the HM should not come empty-handed. "Release all dues of Bengal immediately," he said.
