  • Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit poll-bound West Bengal on May 29 and address a public meeting at Alipurduar, sources said. This will be PM Modi’s first visit to the state, where Assembly elections are scheduled to be held next year, after Operation Sindoor.

Union Home Minister Amit Shah will also visit West Bengal later this month and is likely to hold several meetings on June 1, sources added.

PM Modi will reportedly arrive in West Bengal from Sikkim and hold a public and administrative meeting at Alipurduar. Sources said that the administrative meeting is over the 22 km strategic ‘Chicken’s Neck’ corridor that connects the northeastern states with the rest of India. Alipurduar is located near the corridor.

After the meetings, PM Modi will leave for Kanpur, sources added.

According to BJP sources, Shah will land at Dum Dum airport from Delhi on the night of May 31. On June 1, he will hold closed-door meetings with several top state BJP leaders, after which he will attend a party meeting at Science City, which will be attended by all mondol and district presidents. Shah is also expected to meet BJP MPs and MLAs.

He will return to Delhi on the night of June 1 or the morning of June 2, sources added.

According to a senior party member, Shah is likely to discuss the election strategy with leaders and workers and give instructions on how the party should proceed before the 2026 Assembly elections.

Party insiders also said that issues such as demographic changes in Bengal and the recent violence in Murshidabad are likely to be emphasised during the 2026 campaign.

According to sources, the Leader of the Opposition in the West Bengal Assembly, Suvendu Adhikari, has called a meeting on May 26, possibly to discuss the upcoming visits by Modi and Shah.
