123 Kolkata: After Trinamool Congress questioned why Bengal BJP president and junior Union minister Sukanta Majumdar's wife had two voter cards, Majumdar on Thursday said the district administration was responsible for any such error."The BDO, AERO, SDO and DM are responsible for preparation of voters' lists. DMs follow orders of the state govt," Majumdar said.Sources said Election Commission had sought details about the issue.Trinamool had alleged that Majumdar's wife was registered in voters' lists in two places — one, at her paternal home in Jalpaiguri, where she is listed as Koyel Choudhury, her maiden name; the second, in Balurghat, where she is listed as Koyel Majumdar. The Balurghat MP said his wife transferred her voter registration from Jalpaiguri to Balurghat before the 2021 assembly elections. Despite following proper procedure, her name was not removed from the Jalpaiguri voter list, he said.Majumdar insisted that his wife had already applied for the removal of her name from one voter list and added that the responsibility lay with the district administration if it hadn't been removed."I knew such a controversy would erupt and a non-issue would be made into a political issue. My wife has already submitted her complaint to the BDO office," he added.Trinamool alleged that the Bengal BJP chief's wife was supposed to fill Form-8 and inform EC about her previous surname and voter card. Instead, she filled out Form-6 to become a voter in Balurghat, South Dinajpur.Trinamool spokesperson Kunal Ghosh said, "Sukanta Majumdar, who always talks big, should give the explanation, not others. He is well aware of the fact that when one changes addresses and applies for voter card afresh, they need to delete the earlier ones and apply for the new ones. Why did it not happen in his wife's case? He has an opinion on everything, why did he let this happen?"
