Kolkata: Metro Railway authorities with the help of State Bank of India and Centre for Railway Information Systems (CRIS) is bringing a new mode of digital payment for its commuters in the form of UPI-based ticketing system.
P Uday Kumar Reddy, general manager, Metro Railway, conducted the trial of this new system at Sealdah station of the East-West Metro on Tuesday.
To avail this facility, commuters will have to tell the destination station name and scan the QR code displayed on the dual display board at the counters and make the payment. Smart cards can also be recharged with the help of this system.
Saumitra Biswas, principal chief operations manager, Metro Railway, has played the leading role in implementing this new system in Kolkata Metro.
