Kolkata: Soham Dey, a student of Calcutta Boys’ School, has confronted a life-altering battle with renal failure since the tender age of 11. Despite his ailment, Soham achieved a remarkable 60% in ISC Science, showcasing his resilience and determination.
Diagnosed with renal failure in 2016, it was revealed that both his kidneys had failed. Enduring the challenges of renal failure, he undergoes Peritoneal Dialysis — a process performed three times daily at his home — and is under extensive care both at home and his school.Talking about the outstanding support and care that has been provided by his school and teachers, Jayati Dey, his mother, said, “They have gone above and beyond, ensuring Soham’s academic needs are met by providing him notes and cooperating with him throughout.” She added, “The guards exhibited unwavering support, assisting him in reaching his classes and even carrying his belongings. Moreover, my car received special permission for access inside the school premises.”
The teenager said that during the board examinations, special arrangements were meticulously made for him. “I sat for my exams in a sick room, closely monitored by specially appointed invigilators dispatched by the council, ensuring my comfort and security throughout the challenging period,” he said, adding that despite restrictions confining him to his home, he was determined to perform. Soham has a passion for biology and loves listening to music and watching cricket.
“We have been waiting for his boards to get over so that we can go for the kidney transplant. Since the study pressure is gone now, he can easily get better now,” feels his mother.
