  • Kolkata/Behrampore: BJP national president JP Nadda on Sunday lauded the PM Narendra Modi-led “mazboot sarkar” and called Bengal govt a “majboor sarkar”. Speaking at two rallies, Nadda claimed CM Mamata Banerjee had “stalled development” in the state, was “soft on terrorists” and “sinking in corruption”. He also accused Trinamool of “spreading anarchy” following recovery of arms in Sandeshkhali.

“Govt of Bengal is spreading anarchy.Mamata ji will be proved wrong if she plans to win elections by intimidating people. She will get a befitting reply in the polls and BJP will win in more than 35 seats in Bengal,” Nadda said while addressing back-to-back rallies — his first in Bengal this poll season — in Behrampore and Ranaghat. In his speeches in support of BJP candidates Nirmal Saha and Jagannath Sarkar, Nadda spoke at length on the past glories of Bengal.

Accusing Bengal govt of dividing people on religious lines, the BJP senior said in Behrampore: “Bengal’s development got stalled due to Mamata Banerjee’s kushasan (misrule) and corruption. The state’s image has been maligned over the past few years and its condition worsened. When we are talking of a mazboot sarkar under Modi, Mamata is speaking of a majboor sarkar. It is a govt that pursues appeasement politics and differentiates between people.”

“You allowed cross-border infiltration from Bangladesh. Are you related to these infiltrators in some way? Otherwise, why are you soft on them,” he asked and added: “We have opposed appeasement politics. Congress tried to implement reservation based on religion and deprive the OBCs. UPA govt even invited terrorists to the PM’s office.” Murshidabad district, incidentally, is home to 71 lakh Muslims and Behrampore has long been a Congress bastion.

In Ranaghat, Nadda claimed nominating Sandeshkhali’s Rekha Patra from Basirhat was a move to empower women. He accused Bengal govt of trying to save miscreants in Sandeshkhali. “Trinamool’s men continued to cheat people and loot their land,” he said.

Nadda pointed out Centre had continued to send money for the development of the state and these funds had been diverted, depriving real beneficiaries. “Money is found in the residences of Bengal’s ministers. Trinamool’s workers, who used to extort money, have become chaal chor now. The time has come for a befitting reply and to send Mamata ji on a holiday in the next assembly poll,” he said.
