  • Kolkata: After around eight months, the Council For The Indian School Certificate (CISCE) will have a new chief executive and secretary starting in May. Joseph Emmanuel, the former academic director of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), has been appointed to CISCE.

    Gerry Arathoon, who retired from the post on Sept 30, left the position vacant, and deputy secretary Sangeeta Bhatia was given additional charges.Following the announcement, a formal letter was signed by CISCE chairman G Immanuel and sent to all the heads of affiliated schools.

    Before this appointment, Emmanuel played a significant role in overseeing the administration of CBSE. He was particularly instrumental in implementing the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020. He attended meetings with the principals of CBSE schools across the country and participated in training programmes as well. A principal of a CBSE school in the city said, “He is a very good administrator.”

    Principals are expecting that the new chief executive and secretary will declare this year’s ISC and ICSE exam results.
