  • Kolkata: The relocation of the government-aided Garden Reach Mudiali High School (Boys), which is over a century old and housed in a dilapidated building barely a kilometre from the Garden Reach collapse zone, is set to begin on April 15. The school will temporarily shift to Garden Reach Mudiali Girls’ High School.

Education minister Bratya Basu, mayor Firhad Hakim, speaker Biman Banerjee, who is also the president of the school, Kolkata district inspector of schools Sanjay Chatterjee, and the heads of both schools held a meeting on Wednesday to discuss the date for the shift and timings of the schools.

Garden Reach Mudiali High School (Boys) headmaster Sushen Kumar Mondal said, “It was decided that the boys’ school will be held in its usual time — 11.30 am to 5.05 pm. The girls’ school’s timing will be changed from day to morning.” Speaker Banerjee said the boys’ school will have to be razed and rebuilt.
