Kolkata: Three teens, aged between 16 and 18, drowned while taking a bath in the Hooghly after playing Holi on Monday afternoon.
The bodies of two of the boys, identified as Niraj Razak and Ranit Shaw, were recovered from Panihati Mahotsabtala Ghat and Khardah Rashtala Ghat on Tuesday morning. Divers of the disaster management group (DMG) are searching for the third boy, identified as Aditya Shaw.
According to sources, four boys from Panihati Municipality’s ward 6 had gone to take a bath at Sodepur's Ashram ghat around 3pm on Monday.“They were swept away by the current during a high tide. One of them somehow managed to swim to the ghat but three others drowned,” a local said.
Some locals, who were standing at the ghat, tried to rescue the trio but failed. They immediately alerted police. “The trio could not be traced on Monday. Two of them were traced on Tuesday morning. But another boy is still missing. The search operation is still on,” a senior police officer of the Barrackpore commissionerate said.
