  • Kolkata: The maximum temperature on Tuesday was two notches below normal, but brace for warmer days ahead. The Met office has predicted a rise in mercury in the coming days, with the maximum touching the 36°C mark by the weekend while the minimum could soar to as high as 27°C. The city might also encounter a few spells of thundershower between Thursday and Sunday.

“The mercury is expected to be on a rising trend in the next four to five days. The maximum will be around the 36°C mark by the weekend. Currently, there is an incursion of moisture from the Bay of Bengal,” said GK Das, director (weather) Regional Meteorological Centre Kolkata.

The moisture being injected into the land is expected to push up thundercloud formation, bringing in chances of rain between Thursday and Saturday. The expected rain, however, is unlikely to be potent enough to push the mercury down.

Met officials said the city till Tuesday was getting the westerly wind predominantly. But once the easterly wind takes over it will inject more moisture from the Bay of Bengal.
